Softball Preview: Vernon Yellowjackets vs. Wewahitchka Gators
The Vernon Yellowjackets will challenge the Wewahitchka Gators at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have had a bumpy ride up to this point with three consecutive losses apiece.
Vernon came up short against Chipley on Friday, falling 11-4.
Ava Roche made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3. Lila Owens was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, Wewahitchka might've scored the first runs on Friday, but it was Holmes County who claimed the real prize. The Gators took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Blue Devils.
Severa Haney spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.
On the hitting side, Wewahitchka saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Aubry Bailey, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.
