The Fort Collins Lambkins will face off against the Mountain Vista Golden Eagles at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Fort Collins is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They came out on top against Mountain View by a score of 10-7 on Wednesday. The victory continues a trend for the Lambkins in their matchups with the Mountain Lions: they've now won three in a row.
Evan Gaschler looked comfortable as he pitched 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, Oliver Stanevich was excellent, scoring three runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Kaden Souders, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Fort Collins hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Meanwhile, Mountain Vista had just enough and edged out Fossil Ridge 8-7 on Monday.
Chase Ruden spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up six Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Mountain Vista is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 2-4 otherwise.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Spike Magill, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with three runs and one triple. That triple was his first of the season. Cole Bobbin was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Fort Collins' win bumped their record up to 5-6. As for Mountain Vista, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
