Soccer Game Preview: Columbia vs. Athens

The Columbia Eagles will face off against the Athens Golden Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Columbia is headed into Tuesday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight matches on Thursday. They lost 4-1 to Decatur.

Meanwhile, Athens managed to keep up with James Clemens until halftime on Friday, but things quickly went downhill from there. The Golden Eagles came up short against the Jets, falling 6-0. Having soared to a lofty four goals in the game before, Athens' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

Athens' loss dropped their record down to 5-4-1. As for Columbia, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-4.

Columbia got the 'W' in their previous meeting back in April of 2025 against Athens by a conclusive 6-3 score. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Golden Eagles have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
