Recap: Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs vs. Prairie Mustangs

This season hasn't been kind to the Haxtun Fightin' Bulldogs, who are still winless after their seventh contest. They opened the new year with a less-than-successful 33-24 defeat to Prairie. While losing is never fun, Haxtun can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 261st, while Prairie is ranked 85th).

Bobbi Starkebaum and Kelsie Hadeen certainly did their best on Friday to try and avoid the loss. Starkebaum scored eight points along with ten rebounds, while Hadeen scored eight points. Starkebaum scored a full 33.3% of Haxtun's points, the sixth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points.

Haxtun's defeat dropped their record down to 0-7. As for Prairie, they pushed their record up to 6-2 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season.

Haxtun won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Wiggins at 1:00 p.m. on January 6th. Hopefully Wiggins focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday. As for Prairie, they will head out on the road to face off against Twin Peaks Charter Academy at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
