Baseball Game Preview: Union Local Jets vs. Bellaire Big Reds

For the second straight game, Union Local will face off against Bellaire. The Jets will be playing at home against the Big Reds at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Union Local has given up an average of 7.4 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Union Local came up short against Bellaire on Friday, falling 14-8. The Jets have struggled against the Big Reds recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive lost meeting.

For Bellaire's part, Luke Heatherington was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He struck out six batters over six innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off nine hits (and not a single walk). Heatherington was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

In other batting news, Bellaire let Landon Preston and Scott Balsei run wild. Preston went 2-for-5 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI, while Balsei got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three runs and two RBI. Preston also put up a double, which was his first of the season. Riley Zonker was another key player, going 3-for-5 with two runs.

Bellaire kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.

The win made it two in a row for Bellaire and bumps their season record up to 3-6. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.0 runs over those games. As for Union Local, they now have a losing record of 5-6.
