Jones extended their losing streak to three on Saturday, dropping their season record down to 6-6 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 10-8 heartbreaker at the hands of Brooks. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Jones has suffered since May 14, 2024.
Gabe Manier was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: he struck out seven batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off four hits. What's more, he gave up only two walks, the fewest he's had since back in May of 2024.
At the plate, Michael Hein was cooking despite his team's loss, going 1-for-3 with three RBI, one triple, and one stolen base. Ellis Alexander was another key player, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases, one run, and one RBI.
As for Brooks, the victory (which was their third in a row) raised their record to 5-9. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 4.0 runs on average over those games.
On Brooks' side, the team relied heavily on Amani Braden, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave Braden a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kelly West, who went 1-for-3 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Jones wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next match, a 7-2 victory against Chicago Washington on the 14th. As for Brooks, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next contest, an 11-1 win against Lindblom on the 14th.
