The Delmarva Christian Royals will head out to square off against the Polytech Panthers at 4:15 p.m. on Tuesday. Delmarva Christian is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7 runs per game this season.
Delmarva Christian will roll into the match after a wild two-game stretch: they didn't score any runs last Saturday, then bounced right back against Dickinson on Saturday. The Royals were the clear victors by a 14-4 margin over the Rams. While the Royals didn't have the best season last year (they finished 8-10), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past.
Chase Hitchens made a big impact no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out ten batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off three hits (and only one walk). Hitchens was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with four RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kasey Bell, who scored three runs while getting on base in three of his five plate appearances. He also brought in two RBI, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Malachi Light, who scored two runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Delmarva Christian always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .579. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Polytech, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Sussex Academy 10-9.
Hermes Rodriguez was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 5-for-6. The team also got some help courtesy of William Harvey, who went 2-for-7 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.
Polytech now has a winning record of 3-2. As for Delmarva Christian, their record is now 4-1.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Delmarva Christian has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.6 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Polytech struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Delmarva Christian came out on top in a nail-biter against Polytech in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, sneaking past 4-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Royals since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
