Basketball Recap: Mattie Floyd Key Part of Team Effort in Pirates Win

Swansboro won the last time they faced White Oak and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Pirates blew past the Vikings 53-32. The Pirates pushed the score to 47-23 by the end of the third, a deficit the Vikings cut but never quite recovered from.

Swansboro's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Mattie Floyd, who went 9-for-12 on her way to 18 points in addition to eight steals and seven boards. Those eight steals gave Floyd a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison King, who shot 42% from the field to rack up 12 points and six steals.

Swansboro was working as a unit and finished the game with 14 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as White Oak only posted eight.

When it comes to explaining why White Oak lost, don't look at Aariel Jemison. Despite the final result, she almost dropped a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds. Another player making a difference was Sidney Ferguson, who posted 12 points.

Swansboro now has a winning record of 2-1. As for White Oak, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Looking ahead, Swansboro will be playing at home against Southwest Onslow at 5:15 p.m. on the 3rd. As for White Oak, they will head out to face off against Richlands at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
