Softball Preview: El Segundo Eagles vs. Carson Colts

The El Segundo Eagles are taking a road trip to face off against the Carson Colts at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.

El Segundo took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Wednesday. They put the hurt on Wiseburn- Da Vinci with a sharp 9-2 victory. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Eagles as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Emma Reyna spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on eight hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Sullivan McLaughlin, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2025. Taryn Walker also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.

El Segundo was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .414. That's the best batting average they've posted all season.

Carson came out on top against Venice on Monday thanks in part to the team's impressive four-run first inning. The Colts won by a run and slipped past the Gondoliers 5-4. The victory continues a trend for the Colts in their matchups with the Gondoliers: they've now won three in a row.

Carson also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Isabella Campos gave up three earned (and one unearned) runs on five hits and racked up ten Ks.

On the hitting side, Ashannalee Titialii was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and one run. Anaiyah Popoalii was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two RBI and one run.

El Segundo's record now sits at 2-5. As for Carson, their record is now 2-0.

El Segundo came out on top in a nail-biter against Carson in their previous meeting back in March of 2019, sneaking past 5-4. Will the Eagles repeat their success, or do the Colts have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
