Softball Recap: Zuni Comes Up Short

Zuni extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to eight on Friday, dropping them down to 0-6. They came up short against the Eunice Cardinals, falling 23-2. That's two games in a row now that the Thunderbirds have lost by exactly 21 runs.

As for Eunice, the win got them back to even at 4-4. That 21-run margin sets a new team best for them this season.

For Eunice's part, Madison Martinez made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Martinez was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Isabella Pierce, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. She has been hot recently, having also posted at least one stolen base the last four times she's played. Hallie Jones was another key player, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.

Looking ahead, Zuni will challenge Newcomb at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday. As for Eunice, they will face off against Non Varsity Opponent at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
