Softball Recap: Smith Valley Comes Up Short

Smith Valley extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 13 on Friday, dropping their season record down to 0-6 in the process. They lost 20-10 to the Carlin Railroaders. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Bulldogs of the 7-0 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in April of 2024.

As for Carlin, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record up to 8-6. Considering they have won six contests by more than eight runs this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.

For Carlin's part, Joey Drown tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run over five innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave Drown a new career-high in strikeouts (five).

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Mariah Ramirez, who went 2-for-4 with one home run, four stolen bases, and five RBI. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last four games she's played. Elizabeth Clancy was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two stolen bases, three runs, and three RBI.

While Smith Valley had to take the loss, they won't have to wait long to give it another shot: the pair will be back at it again later today.
