Basketball Game Preview: Cherokee Trail Cougars vs. Overland Trailblazers

Cherokee Trail hasn't had much luck against Overland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Cherokee Trail Cougars will challenge the Overland Trailblazers at 7:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.

Cherokee Trail is headed into Friday's matchup looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They took a hard 66-47 fall against Eaglecrest. While losing is never fun, the Cougars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 53rd, while the Raptors are ranked third).

Meanwhile, Overland came up short against Grandview on Wednesday and fell 65-53. The Trailblazers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Cherokee Trail will have to keep a close watch on Dontae Graham and Demetrius Lambert, a pair of players who had a big impact on Overland's prior game. Graham posted 15 points, while Lambert had 16 points. The dominant performance gave Lambert a new career-high in points.

Overland's loss dropped their record down to 7-11. As for Cherokee Trail, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-10.

Cherokee Trail came up short against Overland when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 61-56. Can Cherokee Trail avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
