Basketball Recap: Bishop Verot Drops Highest Score of Season Against Golden Gate

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Bishop Verot). They were the clear victor by a 74-51 margin over the Golden Gate Titans on Saturday. Given the Vikings' advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 125th, while the Titans are ranked 431st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Bishop Verot had a senior duo take command as Gavin Williams went 9 for 12 on his way to 25 points and Austin Leslie went 9 of 16 en route to 26 points and eight rebounds. Max Code also deserves some recognition as he scored his first points of the season.

Bishop Verot smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They are 2-1 when they hit their own glass that hard.

Despite the loss, Golden Gate still got an impressive performance from Sam Powell, who posted 25 points along with seven boards and four steals. Orville Salomon was another key player, putting up six points and five rebounds.

Bishop Verot's win bumped their record up to 14-8. As for Golden Gate, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-16.

Bishop Verot wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 54-51 victory against Naples on the 27th. As for Golden Gate, they will face off against Neumann at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
