Sotomayor is 0-3 against Harlan since October of 2022 but things could change on Thursday. The WILDCATS are taking a road trip to take on the Hawks at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Sotomayor comes in on six and Harlan on nine.
Last Saturday, even if it wasn't a dominant performance, Sotomayor beat Warren 40-35.
Chauncey Moon continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 142 yards and one touchdown while picking up 8.9 yards per carry, and also throwing for 77 yards and one TD. Haewood Anderson also helped out as he racked up 124 rushing yards.
They were just one part of a punishing run game: Sotomayor was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 268 rushing yards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now rushed for at least 268 rushing yards in six consecutive contests.
Special teams also deserves some recognition, posting 16 points in total. The biggest highlight from special teams (and perhaps the team as a whole) came courtesy of Alijah McAdory, who ran a kickoff back for a touchdown.
Meanwhile, everything came up roses for Harlan against Warren on Friday as the team secured a 49-7 victory. Considering the Hawks have won six games by more than 37 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Sotomayor better keep an eye on Aldric Trotter. He was instrumental in Harlan's win, throwing for 243 yards and six touchdowns while completing 75% of his passes, and also rushing for 32 yards and one score. Those six passing touchdowns gave Trotter a new career-high. 138 of Trotter's passing yards were hauled in by Xavier Smith.
Sotomayor's record now sits at 6-3. As for Harlan, their record is now 9-0.
Thursday's matchup might be decided on the ground. Sotomayor has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 288.8 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Harlan struggles in that department as they've been averaging 211.3 rushing yards. There's a good chance Thursday's contest turns into a tough fight on the ground.
Sotomayor couldn't quite finish off Harlan when the teams last played back in November of 2024 and fell 35-33. Can the WILDCATS avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
