Recap: Tampa Catholic Crusaders vs. Jesuit Tigers
If The Tampa Catholic Crusaders were riding high off their 42-7 takedown of the Jefferson Dragons last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Tampa Catholic was beaten by Jesuit 66-35 on Friday. Tampa Catholic was in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 38-14.
Despite the loss, Tampa Catholic still got an impressive performance from Trey Hedden, who threw for 247 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 10.7 yards per attempt, and also punched in two rushing scores. Hedden has been hot recently, having posted three or more passing touchdowns the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tj Moore, who picked up 130 receiving yards and a touchdown.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Jesuit to victory, but perhaps none more so than Will Griffin, who threw for 401 yards and seven touchdowns while completing 82.8% of his passes. Willy Suarez also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
Tampa Catholic's loss was their fourth straight on the road , which bumped their record down to 4-5. Admittedly, the team was facing some tough opposition over that stretch, including 8-2 Fort Myers and 8-2 Robinson (their opponents had an average overall winning percentage of 80% over those games). As for Jesuit, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 8-2.
Tampa Catholic will head out on the road to face off against Robinson at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Jesuit, they will stay at home for another week and welcome Pinellas Park at 7:30 p.m. on November 10th.
