Recap: Robinson Knights vs. Gibbs Gladiators
The Robinson Knights and the Gibbs Gladiators squared off in some playoff action on Saturday, but sadly the Robinson Knights had to settle for second. They were the victim of a rough 77-56 defeat at the hands of the Gladiators. While losing is never fun, Robinson can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 288th, while Gibbs is ranked 40th).
Jordan Mickens and Dylan Russell certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Mickens scored 25 points along with eight assists and six rebounds, while Russell scored 17 points along with two steals. Mickens is on a roll when it comes to points, as he's now scored 19 or more in the last four games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Donevon Kelly, who scored eight points.
Even though they lost, Robinson smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive rebounds. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Gibbs only pulled down four offensive rebounds.
Gibbs was led to victory by Jacob Daniels and Isaiah Medina. Daniels dropped a double-double on 16 points and ten assists, while Medina almost dropped a double-double on 25 points and nine rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Medina has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Bobby Crawford, who scored six points along with six rebounds.
Robinson's defeat dropped their record down to 15-13. As for Gibbs, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 22-5.
Robinson will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against Booker at 7:00 p.m. on February 15th. Booker will roll in looking for their 13th straight victory, something Robinson surely won't give up without a fight. As for Gibbs, they will take on Bayshore at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. One thing working in Gibbs' favor is that they have posted big point totals in their last 14 matchups.
