Baseball Recap: Egg Harbor Township Takes a Loss

Egg Harbor Township dropped their record down to 8-10 on Wednesday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They came up short against the Millville Thunderbolts, falling 8-0. The Eagles were not able to repeat the success they had when they faced the Thunderbolts earlier this season, when they won 9-7.

As for Millville, they are on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 9-10 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.2 runs on average over those games.

For Millville's part, Garret Shapiro made a splash no matter where he played. He didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only two hits over seven innings pitched. Shapiro also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Millville is 3-1 when he allows at most three earned runs, but 6-9 otherwise. Shapiro was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.

In other batting news, Kevin Dick was excellent, going 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in May of 2024. Mario Cottrell also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.

Coming up, Egg Harbor Township will challenge Cedar Creek at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Millville, they will face off against Pennsville Memorial at 4:00 p.m. on Friday.
