Basketball Recap: Burke Takes a Loss

Burke entered their match against North Charleston on Saturday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Burke Bulldogs were dealt a 68-40 defeat at the hands of the North Charleston Cougars. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring game so far this season.

Despite the loss, Burke saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Jordan Nelson went 8 for 16 on his way to 21 points and five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Nelson has scored all season. Melachi Singleton was another key player, putting up six points and five assists.

It was another big night for Richard Hazel III, who went 9 of 12 on his way to 20 points along with seven boards and three steals for North Charleston. Hazel III is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed three or more in the last three games he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcus Simmons, who posted 12 points and four steals.

Burke's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-5. As for North Charleston, the victory was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 9-5.

Burke didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 62-15 win against St. John's on the 7th. As for North Charleston, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 66-61 loss against West Ashley on the 6th.
