Basketball Recap: Ashland-Greenwood Comes Up Short

Ashland-Greenwood was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their seventh straight loss. They were beaten by the Malcolm Clippers 69-28. The Bluejays were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 36-12.

Despite the defeat, Ashland-Greenwood saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Kylie Raess went 6-for-13 en route to 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Raess has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaycee Downing, who posted three points and five steals.

Leading Malcolm to victory were Payton Dolliver and Baylor Bratrsovsky. Dolliver dropped a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Bratrsovsky went 8-for-11 on her way to 20 points and six steals. The game was Dolliver's third in a row with at least 18 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Merryl Paul, who earned nine points.

Ashland-Greenwood's loss dropped their record down to 4-17. As for Malcolm, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four contests, which provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season.

Ashland-Greenwood wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 66-35 defeat against Kearney Catholic on the 13th. As for Malcolm, they have also already played their next game, a 50-37 win against Duchesne on the 13th.
