Softball Recap: Erie Comes Up Short

Erie extended their losing streak to four on Saturday, dropping them down to 7-11. They came up short against the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers, falling 13-3. The Royals were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Lakers apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in May of 2023.

Erie saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Gabriella Briggs, who went 1-for-3 with one home run. Briggs also put up an RBI, which was her first of the season.

As for Mercyhurst Prep, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 11-3. Considering they have won eight games by more than nine runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.

On Mercyhurst Prep's side, Jocelyn Jordan was excellent, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most RBI Jordan has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Kayden Thomas, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Erie will host McDowell at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Trojans' pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so the Royals' hitters will have their work cut out for them. As for Mercyhurst Prep, they will be playing at home against Union City at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
