Volleyball Recap: St. Charles East Fighting Saints vs. Hinsdale Central Red Devils
St. Charles East was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fifth straight defeat dating back to last season. They were a single set away from ending the streak, but they lost a 2-1 heartbreaker at the hands of the Hinsdale Central Red Devils. The Fighting Saints were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Devils apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
In a back-and-forth that saw neither team win consecutive sets, St. Charles East sadly dropped the once that decided the match. The final score came out to 25-20, 20-25, 25-13.
Despite the defeat, St. Charles East saw an underclassman step up: sophomore Gianna Gjokaj had 11 digs and three assists. Another player making a difference was Francesca Fevold, who had 11 assists and four digs.
St. Charles East's loss dropped their record down to 0-2. As for Hinsdale Central, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Charles East will be taking part in a tournament against Conant at 6:45 p.m. on Friday. As for Hinsdale Central, they will venture away from home to face off against Plainfield North at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
