Softball Recap: Fair Grove's Run of 11 Straight Victories Now Over

Fair Grove dropped their record down to 13-3 on Thursday, which also ended the team's 11-game streak of wins. They wound up with the same score they had in their last game (5-3), but sadly the team found themselves on the wrong side of the score this time. The game marked their lowest-scoring contest so far this season.

Shayla Haddock was cooking despite her team's loss, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles, one run, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Addyson Nunley, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI.

As for Mt. Vernon, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 20-5. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted against Fair Grove since April 9, 2019.

On Mt. Vernon's side, Emily Schubert spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on six hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, Mt. Vernon saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Maddie Schubert, who went 1-for-2 with two RBI.

Fair Grove and Mt. Vernon should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps Missouri Rankings. The Eagles will square off against Ash Grove at 5:00 p.m. on Monday with a big rank advantage (3 vs. 56). Meanwhile, Mt. Vernon (ranked fifth) will meet Sarcoxie (ranked 47th) at 5:00 p.m. on Monday.
