Softball Recap: West Hills Takes a Loss

West Hills dropped their record down to 10-7-1 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins at home. They fell just short of the Mira Mesa Marauders by a score of 4-3. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Wolf Pack of the 10-3 loss they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in May of 2023.

Ava Goodman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and one unearned) runs on four hits and racked up eight Ks.

On the hitting side, Maddie Aylesbury was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for Mira Mesa, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 7-11. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered a grand total of 4 runs in those games.

On Mira Mesa's side, they also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Brooklyn Haug gave up only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits.

At the plate, Mira Mesa's victory was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Carla Murguia, who went 1-for-2 with one stolen base and one RBI.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. West Hills will venture away from home to challenge Santana at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Wolf Pack 3.7, the Sultans 3.4) so any runs scored will be well earned. As for Mira Mesa, they will head out to square off against Scripps Ranch at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Marauders' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Falcons have averaged an impressive 7.6 runs per game this season.
