It may have taken eight innings to finish the job, but Hays ultimately got the result they hoped for on Friday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against the Lockhart Lions, sneaking past 5-4. The win continues a trend for the Hawks in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won seven in a row.

Makayla Munoz spent all eight innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned runs on five hits and racked up 15 Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Teuila Eteaki, who went 2-for-3 with one home run and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Eliana Villegas, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

Hays' victory bumped their record up to 13-8. As for Lockhart, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 4-15.

We've got plenty of inter-district action coming up soon. Hays will take on rival Glenn at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Meanwhile, Lockhart is set to challenge their familiar foe Cedar Park at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
