The Capistrano Valley Christian Eagles are taking a road trip to challenge the Village Christian Crusaders at 7:00 p.m. on Friday.
Capistrano Valley Christian is likely headed into the contest with a focus on the second half, which is when things went downhill against Valley Christian on Friday. The Eagles fell 35-26 to the Defenders.
Despite their defeat, Capistrano Valley Christian saw several players rise to the challenge and make noteworthy plays. Luke Vincent, who picked up 29 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns, was perhaps the best of all.
While Capistrano Valley Christian came up short, they sure didn't make it easy for Valley Christian: they limited their QB to completion percentage of just 42.1%. That dominant aerial defense primarily came from two players: Gavin Gizzi and Benji Makelela, who each logged one passes deflected. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Capistrano Valley Christian; they were averaging 57.3%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three games they've fallen to only 0%.

Capistrano Valley Christian didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off three passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Michael Vukich and Gizzi. Vukich is also on a roll when it comes to total tackles, as he's now made five or more in each of the last nine games he's played dating back to last season. Capistrano Valley Christian received some extra help from Makelela, whose fumble return for a touchdown made for one of the most unforgettable moments.
Meanwhile, Village Christian came into Friday's matchup having lost three straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. They secured a 17-13 W over Heritage Christian on Friday.
Capistrano Valley Christian better focus on containing Mattao Tarca and Cooper Jackson as the pair were huge in Village Christian's win. Tarca rushed for 111 yards, while Jackson threw for 97 yards and two TDs. Tarca was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Capistrano Valley Christian has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-4 record this season. As for Village Christian, the win got them back to even at 3-3.
Capistrano Valley Christian was dealt a bruising 64-22 loss at the hands of Village Christian in their previous meeting back in October of 2024. Thankfully for the Eagles, Everson Mathis (who rushed for 35 yards and three scores, and also threw for 281 yards and a pair of touchdowns while completing 83.3% of his passes) won't be suiting up this time.
