Softball Game Preview: Cardinal Gibbons Chiefs vs. Coral Glades Jaguars

Cardinal Gibbons hasn't had much luck against Coral Glades recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Chiefs will welcome the Jaguars at 4:00 p.m. Cardinal Gibbons will be looking to extend their current four-game winning streak.

If Cardinal Gibbons beats Coral Glades with 11 runs on Wednesday, it's going to be the team's new lucky number: they've won their past two contests with that exact score. The Chiefs walked away with an 11-7 win over Melbourne on Saturday.

Lydia Berent spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered seven runs (all of which were unearned) on one hit and racked up 12 Ks. She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in 19 consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jess Chu was excellent, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Skylar Flack, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Coral Glades unfortunately witnessed the end of their six-game winning streak on Monday. They fell 5-0 to American Heritage. While getting shut out isn't ideal, the Jaguars haven't been shut out since back in March.

Cardinal Gibbons' victory bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Coral Glades, their loss dropped their record down to 9-7.

Cardinal Gibbons couldn't quite finish off Coral Glades in their previous meeting back in March of 2023 and fell 6-4. Can the Chiefs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
