Volleyball Game Preview: Hillcrest Huskies vs. Kearns Cougars

The Hillcrest Huskies will take on the Kearns Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Kearns took a loss in their last match and will be looking to turn the tables on Hillcrest, who comes in off a win.

On Tuesday, Hillcrest got the win against Granger by a conclusive 3-0. The Huskies haven't had any issues with the Lancers recently, as the game was their fifth consecutive victory against them.

One reason for the win was Hillcrest's just kept getting better, winning each set by more points than the last. The match finished with set scores of 25-22, 25-20, 25-5.

Meanwhile, Kearns was not able to break out of their rough patch on Tuesday as the team picked up their fourth straight defeat. They fell 3-1 to West.

The loss didn't mean the game wasn't competitive: West scored at least 19 points in every set. The final score came out to 25-19, 25-20, 20-25, 25-22.

Hillcrest will need to focus on slowing down Kiera Burgess, one of several Kearns players who made an impact when they last played. She had nine aces and three digs.

Kearns' defeat dropped their record down to 3-13. As for Hillcrest, they now have a winning record of 12-11.

Hillcrest was able to grind out a solid win over Kearns when the teams last played back in September, winning 3-1. One of the biggest obstacles the team faced in that game was the Cougars' Lisa Malaefono, who had 15 digs and five aces. Now that she's got a second chance to win this matchup, will the Huskies still be able to contain Malaefono? There's only one way to find out.
