Softball Recap: Norwalk Wins Going Away Against Westhill

The home team had won the previous three meetings between Norwalk and Westhill, and Norwalk kept the tradition alive. The Bears put the hurt on the Vikings with a sharp 14-1 win on Friday. For the Bears, this counts as revenge for the 13-7 victory the Vikings walked away with the last time they faced one another back in April of 2024.

Maddie Collins and Zoey Wilds made a splash no matter where they played. On the mound, Collins tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Wilds pitched 2.2 innings while giving up just one earned run but no hits. At the plate, Collins went a perfect 2-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Wilds went 1-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That triple was Wilds' first of the season.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Ally Lanzarotto, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one stolen base. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Alexa Lacomis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.

Norwalk always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .600. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Norwalk is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a nice bump to their 6-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for Westhill, they dropped their record down to 0-8 with the defeat, which was their seventh straight on the road dating back to last season.

We've got plenty of inter-league action coming up soon. Norwalk is set to face off against their familiar foe Danbury at 4:00 p.m. on Monday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Bears 2.8, the Hatters 4) so any runs scored will be well earned. Meanwhile, Westhill will square off against rival St. Joseph at 4:00 p.m. on Monday.
