Football Game Preview: Galena Park Yellowjackets vs. Austin Mustangs

The Galena Park Yellowjackets will square off against the Austin Mustangs at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Things were looking good for Galena Park after they put the first points on the board on Saturday, but unfortunately for them things went downhill from there. They were outmatched by Westbury and fell 48-21. The Yellowjackets were down 34-14 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

The match pitted two dominant backs against one another in Cary Clay and Jefferson Rivas Hernandez. Rivas Hernandez had a great game and gained 179 total yards and five touchdowns. Meanwhile, Clay was balling out in the loss, rushing for 115 yards and one score, while also throwing for 62 yards and one TD.

Meanwhile, Austin was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their 17th straight defeat dating back to last season. They lost 42-16 to Sharpstown.

Austin's loss dropped their record down to 0-9. As for Galena Park, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-6.

Everything came up roses for Galena Park against Austin in their previous meeting back in November of 2024, as the squad secured a 50-0 win. Will the Yellowjackets repeat their success, or do the Mustangs have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
