Preview: Smith-Cotton Tigers vs. Carthage Tigers
Smith-Cotton has enjoyed a two-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will take on The Carthage Tigers at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Smith-Cotton never got on the board in their matchup two weeks ago, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Hogan Prep Charter last Friday. They blew past the Rams, posting a 48-6 victory at home.
Mylan Hawkins was a one-man wrecking crew for Smith-Cotton as he rushed for 165 yards and three touchdowns. Dax Wiskur made the highlight reel by snagging an interception and taking it all the way to the house.
Meanwhile, Carthage strolled past Willard with points to spare on Friday, taking the game 28-14.
Smith-Cotton's win bumped their record up to 2-7. As for Carthage, they now have a winning record of 5-4.
Smith-Cotton might still be hurting after the 28-6 loss they got from Carthage in their previous meeting back in October of 2014. Thankfully for Smith-Cotton, Alex Derryberry (who threw for 123 yards and three touchdowns while completing 90% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
