Baseball Recap: Mainland Comes Up Short

Mainland had lost three straight on the road, but on Friday they dropped down to 3-13 to make it four. They lost 10-3 to the Pine Ridge Panthers. Unfortunately, that's the third time they've come up short against the Panthers this season, with their most recent defeat being a 7-3 loss back in February.

Ashton Hall made the most of his time in the batter's box despite the final result and went a perfect 2-for-2 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.

As for Pine Ridge, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 8-10. Ten seems to be a good number for them as the team scooped up a victory with the same number of runs in their previous game.

On Pine Ridge's side, Romeo Vargas was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out seven batters over four innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off two hits. Vargas has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in all three of his plate appearances with one triple and two RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in February.

In other batting news, Pine Ridge let Sam Figueroa and Cameron Schweit run wild. Figueroa went 1-for-3 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double, while Schweit went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run. That's the most RBI Schweit has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Nathan Murrah, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two RBI.

Coming up, Mainland will take on Astronaut at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. As for Pine Ridge, they will challenge University at 4:30 p.m. on Monday.
