Softball Recap: Central Spartans vs. Imperial Tigers

Central extended their losing streak to eight on Friday, dropping their season record down to 6-14 in the process. They were two runs away from ending the streak, but they lost a 4-2 heartbreaker at the hands of the Imperial Tigers. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Spartans have suffered since April 4th.

Central saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Lia Moreno, who went 1-for-3 with one double and one RBI.

As for Imperial, the win (which was their fifth in a row) raised their record to 20-5. The victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average over those games.

On Imperial's side, Madeleine Magdelano spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on five hits and racked up nine Ks. Magdelano has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Hailey Lepe was excellent, going 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Addison Clark, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Coming up, Central will square off against Palo Verde Valley at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. The Spartans are facing the Yellow Jackets at the right time seeing as the Yellow Jackets are stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Imperial, they will welcome Holtville at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
