Softball Game Preview: Sweeny Bulldogs vs. El Campo Ricebirds

The Sweeny Bulldogs will venture away from home to face off against the El Campo Ricebirds at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Sweeny is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.

Sweeny came into this matchup off a tough seven-run defeat last Tuesday. This time they kept things ultra-competitive, but unfortunately the final result was the same. They fell just short of Brazosport by a score of 6-4 on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss the Bulldogs have suffered since February 11th.

Meanwhile, El Campo got the win against Brazosport on Tuesday by a conclusive 8-2. Considering the Ricebirds have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Kamryn Mears made a splash while hitting and pitching. She tossed seven innings while giving up just two earned runs off four hits. Mears was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Presley Bacak, who scored two runs and stole three bases. Those three stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Mac'Yia Warner, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one RBI.

El Campo's record is now 17-6-1. As for Sweeny, their defeat dropped their record down to 2-13.

Sweeny might still be hurting after the 13-2 loss they got from El Campo in their previous matchup back in March. Can the Bulldogs avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
