Softball Game Preview: Newman Smith Trojans vs. Wakeland Wolverines

Newman Smith hasn't had much luck against Wakeland recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Trojans are taking a road trip to face off against the Wolverines at 6:00 p.m. Newman Smith has given up an average of 15.1 runs per game this season, but Friday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Newman Smith is headed into Friday's contest looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their 32nd straight game dating back to last season on Tuesday. They lost 12-0 to Turner.

Meanwhile, Wakeland got the win against The Colony on Tuesday by a conclusive 17-1. Considering the Wolverines have won 13 matches by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Jordan Mcnees tossed a big game, tossing six innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits.

On the hitting side, Claire Schreiner was incredible, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, three runs, and four RBI. She also put up a triple, which was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Kinney, who scored three runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-4.

Wakeland pushed their record up to 16-4 with the win, which was their fourth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.5 runs on average over those games. As for Newman Smith, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-17.

Newman Smith might still be hurting after the 16-0 loss they got from Wakeland when the teams last played back in March. Can the Trojans avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
