Basketball Recap: Jasper Wildcats vs. Barr-Reeve Vikings
Even though the Jasper Wildcats have not done well against the Barr-Reeve Vikings recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Thursday. Jasper snuck past the Vikings with a 49-45 win. That's another feather in the cap for Jasper, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Several Vikings players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Donnie Miller, who scored 14 points along with five rebounds. Another player making a difference was Seth Wagler, who scored 13 points.
The victory got Jasper back to even at 8-8. As for Barr-Reeve, their defeat ended an eight-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 14-2.
Jasper will take on the Patriots at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday. Heritage Hills knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past 13 contests -- so hopefully the Wildcats like a good challenge. As for Barr-Reeve, they will head out on the road to challenge the Jeeps at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Northeast Dubois will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Indiana Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Vikings are ranked 67th).
