Volleyball Preview: Amherst County Lancers vs. Rustburg Red Devils

Amherst County is 1-9 against Rustburg since March of 2021 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Lancers will be playing at home against the Red Devils at 7:00 p.m. Amherst County will be looking to extend their current three-game winning streak.

Amherst County proved they can win big last Thursday (they won by three) and on Tuesday they proved they can win the close ones too. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Glass, sneaking past 3-2.

Amherst County wouldn't go down easily and took Glass into a fifth set where they got it done with a six-point win. The final score came out to 20-25, 25-22, 25-19, 25-27, 15-9.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Amherst County to victory, but perhaps none more so than Kamdyn Cardwile, who had 13 digs, 12 kills, and seven aces. What's more, Cardwile posted two assists, the most she's had over her last three contests. The team also got some help courtesy of Kynslee Wilson, who had ten digs and one block.

They weren't the only good servers: Amherst County was lethal from the service line and finished the match with 21 aces. That's the most aces they've managed all season.

Meanwhile, Rustburg lost 3-0 to Glass on Thursday. The Red Devils haven't had much luck with the Hilltoppers recently, as the team has come up short the last five times they've met.

Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-6, 25-18, 25-12.

Despite the defeat, Rustburg saw an underclassman step up: freshman Peyton Lowes had nine digs.

Amherst County's victory bumped their record up to 14-5. As for Rustburg, their loss dropped their record down to 9-11.
