Baseball Game Preview: Highland Bulldogs vs. Antelope Valley Antelopes

Highland is 9-1 against Antelope Valley since April of 2018 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Wednesday. The Bulldogs will head out to square off against the Antelopes at 3:15 p.m. Highland is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 7.4 runs per game this season.

Highland took a loss when they played away from home on Saturday, but their home fans gave them all the motivation they needed on Tuesday. They came out on top against Quartz Hill by a score of 8-5. Give some credit to the fans of both teams: the last five times they've met, the home team has come away the winner.

Highland let Mateo Dominguez and Cole Studt run wild. Dominguez scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Studt scored a run while going 4-for-4. Those four hits gave Studt a new career-high. Jayden Carrillo was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.

Meanwhile, Antelope Valley was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their eighth straight defeat. They lost 10-0 to Palmdale.

Highland is on a roll lately: they've won four of their last five matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7-1 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.4 runs over those games. As for Antelope Valley, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.

Antelope Valley's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Highland has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 9.2 hits per game. It's a different story for Antelope Valley, though, as they've been averaging 9.2 hits. Given Highland's sizable advantage in that area, the Antelopes will need to find a way to close that gap.
