The Woodrow Wilson Flying Eagles will square off against the Greenbrier West Cavaliers at 5:30 p.m. on Monday. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
On Saturday, Woodrow Wilson was able to grind out a solid victory over Liberty, taking the game 6-1. The Flying Eagles haven't had any issues with the Raiders recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive win against them.
The team relied heavily on Shailee Sexton, who went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Hadley Reott, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, Greenbrier West had just enough and edged out James Monroe 10-9 on Saturday.
Kyndall Taylor spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered nine runs (all of which were unearned) on ten hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than one walk in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Brilee Redden was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March of 2024. Another player making a difference was Madalyn Fields, who went 2-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one double.
Greenbrier West kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 12 hits. They are a perfect 4-0 when they post 11 or more hits.
Greenbrier West's victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Woodrow Wilson, their win bumped their record up to 10-7.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Monday as neither team is afraid to steal. Woodrow Wilson has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like Greenbrier West struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Woodrow Wilson beat Greenbrier West 5-2 in their previous matchup back in April of 2024. Do the Flying Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Cavaliers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
