Grant County is 0-10 against Harrison County since May of 2016 but things could change on Saturday. Grant County lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Villa Madonna, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Thursday's contest. Grant County's pitchers stepped up to hand Villa Madonna an 11-0 shutout on Thursday. The Braves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four matches by seven runs or more this season.
Luke Williams and Seth Tucker were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Williams pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Tucker tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At bat, Williams scored two runs and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Tucker went 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Braylon Rodriguez was incredible, scoring two runs while going 3-for-3. James Ely also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Grant County was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.
Meanwhile, Harrison County came tearing into Friday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.7 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past the Pirates 2-0. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Thorobreds/Fillies have posted since May 18, 2024.
Grant County pushed their record up to 5-0 with the victory, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.8 runs on average this season. As for Harrison County, their record is now 6-1-1.
Grant County couldn't quite get it done against Harrison County in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 as they fell 7-3. Can Grant County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
