The New Athens Yellow Jackets's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Wednesday after their sixth straight defeat. Their tough 53-31 loss to Marissa/Coulterville might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for New Athens in their matchups with Marissa/Coulterville: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why New Athens lost, one person who can't be blamed is Ella Bohn. Despite the final result, she scored two points along with 13 rebounds and two blocks. Bohn is on a roll when it comes to blocks, as she's now posted two or more in the last three games she's played. Mallory Kohnen was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
New Athens has not been sharp recently as the team's lost nine of their last ten games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-19 record this season. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they have been performing well recently as they've won nine of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-8 record this season.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. New Athens will take on Valmeyer at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Marissa/Coulterville, they won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Steeleville at 6:00 p.m. on February 8th. Steeleville will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something Marissa/Coulterville surely won't give up without a fight.
