Recap: Wekiva Mustangs vs. Winter Springs Bears

The Wekiva Mustangs had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They breezed by Winter Springs on the road to the tune of 58-23. Given Wekiva's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 119th, while Winter Springs is ranked 432nd), the result on Thursday wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wekiva's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Tierra Coleman, who scored 16 points along with four steals. Another player making a difference was Makayla Bell, who scored ten points along with four steals.

Wekiva's victory bumped their record up to 12-9. As for Winter Springs, they have been struggling recently, as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-11 record this season.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Wekiva will challenge Freedom at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday. Winter Springs won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lyman at 6:00 p.m. on January 19th. Lyman is still on the hunt for that elusive first 'W'.
