Boiling Springs had lost four straight on the road, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 7-9 to make it five. They came up short against the Greencastle-Antrim Blue Devils, falling 10-4. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Blue Devils this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 9-1 on April 1st.
Delaney Lawyer put in work while hitting and pitching. She didn't allow a single earned run over 4.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-low in walks (zero). She was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of her four plate appearances with one run.
In other batting news, Gabrielle Vonstein made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 3-for-4 with two runs and one RBI. Mya Gilliam also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
As for Greencastle-Antrim, the victory was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record up to 14-1. Considering they have won 11 matches by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Like Boiling Springs, Greencastle-Antrim also got a great game from a two-way player: Kaiden Zimmerman. On the mound, she struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. Zimmerman was also big at the plate, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI. Those four hits gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Kylie Kerns, who went 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Caroline Logsdon, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Boiling Springs will host West Perry at 4:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Greencastle-Antrim, they will welcome Chambersburg at 4:15 p.m. on Friday. The Trojans will roll in looking for their ninth straight win, something the Blue Devils surely won't give up without a fight.
