 After a string of seven wins, Downingtown East's good fortune finally ran out  on Monday. They fell just short of the Downingtown West Whippets by a score of  2-0. Having soared to a lofty 19  runs in the game before, Downingtown East's shutout was a dramatic turnaround.
  Rachael Schumann spent all 7.1 innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered one  run (which was  unearned)  on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. Those 7.1  innings set a new season-high mark for her.
 On Downingtown West's side,  the result came thanks to  Addison Carter's shutout, as she gave up just two  hits and racked up 12 Ks. Carter has been consistent recently: she hasn't  pitched less than five  innings in six consecutive pitching appearances.
 At the plate, Downingtown West's win was truly a team effort as five different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was  Ava Kaczmarski, who  scored a  run while going 2-for-4. The team also got some help courtesy of  Emma Ahlborn, who  scored a  run while going 2-for-4.
 Having lost for the first time this season, Downingtown East  fell to 7-1. As for Downingtown West, their victory was  their 15th straight at home dating back to last season, which  pushed their record up to 8-0.
 Downingtown East will head out on the road to  take on  Kennett at 3:45  p.m.  on Thursday. Downingtown East is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 6.4  runs per game  this season. As for Downingtown West, they didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next  match,  a  10-0  win vs. Great Valley on the 17th.
