Softball Game Preview: Taft Greyhounds vs. Aransas Pass Panthers

Taft and Aransas Pass are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2020, but likely not for long. Taft will head out on the road to face off against Aransas Pass at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.

Taft is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to ten runs on Tuesday, they were much more limited against Mathis on Friday. They fell just short of the Pirates by a score of 4-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Greyhounds in their meetings with the Pirates: they've now lost three in a row.

Josette Aparicio was huge no matter where she played even without the win. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out eight batters over six innings while giving up just two earned (and two unearned) runs off four hits. She also tossed six walks, marking her first of the season. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one double and one RBI.

In other batting news, Jewelysa Garcia made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and scored two runs and stole three bases while going 1-for-4. She is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games she's played.

Meanwhile, Aransas Pass was not the first on the board on Saturday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 13-3 margin over West Oso. The Panthers haven't had any issues with the Bears recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.

Aransas Pass' victory bumped their record up to 6-10-1. As for Taft, their loss was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 13-8.

Taft took their win against Aransas Pass when the teams last played on March 14th by a conclusive 12-2. The rematch might be a little tougher for Taft since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
