Football Game Preview: Smith Center vs. Republic County

Given their disadvantage in the MaxPreps state rankings, Republic County should expect quite the challenge on Friday. They take on Smith Center at 7:00 PM. Republic County will be looking to avenge the 0-70 loss they took the last time these two teams played.

Things haven't been easy for Republic County, and their contest last Friday only extended their streak of losses to six. They were given a punishing 14-55 defeat at the hands of Ell-Saline.despite the loss, Republic County saw an underclassman step up: Sophomore Jared Baxa rushed for 91 yards and 1 touchdown In fact, with 11 tackles Stindt was a force on both sides of the ball.

Last Friday, Smith Center put the finishing touches on their 4th blowout victory of the season. Everything came up roses for them against Sacred Heart as the team secured a 55-0 victory. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 42-0.

Smith Center's win lifted them to 5-1 while Republic County's defeat dropped them down to 0-6. Republic County's offensive line will need to gear up for a tough test against a Smith Center defensive front that amassed seven sacks against Sacred Heart, so we'll see if they are up to the task.
