Basketball Recap: Portsmouth Trojans vs. Portsmouth West Senators

The Portsmouth Trojans entered their tilt with the Portsmouth West Senators with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Portsmouth strolled past the Senators with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 56-42. Given Portsmouth's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio basketball rankings (they are ranked 174th, while the Senators are ranked 514th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Portsmouth's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Donnovan Breech led the charge by scoring 18 points along with two steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Malachi Loper, who scored 15 points along with three steals.

Portsmouth's victory bumped their record up to 12-5. As for Portsmouth West, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost seven of their last nine contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 6-11 record this season.

Portsmouth and the Fighting Tigers will face off at 7:30 p.m. on February 6th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Ironton is no doubt hoping to put an end to a three-game streak of away losses. As for Portsmouth West, they will head out on the road to take on the Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
