Basketball Game Preview: Teague Lions vs. Mexia Black Cats

Teague is 0-10 against Mexia since February of 2015 but things could change on Tuesday. The Teague Lions will challenge the Mexia Black Cats at 7:30 p.m.

It was a proper cat-fight when Teague challenged Kerens on Saturday. Teague fell 63-52 to Kerens.

Despite the loss, Teague got top-tier performance from Brayden Leija, who went 8 of 19 en route to 20 points and six rebounds. That's the most points Leija has posted since back in February of 2024. The team also got some help courtesy of Clifford Coleman, who posted 11 points and five steals.

Even though they lost, Teague smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 14 offensive rebounds. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 12 offensive boards in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Mexia). They took their matchup on Friday with ease, bagging a 93-61 victory over Fairfield. With the Black Cats ahead 45-21 at the half, the game was all but over already.

Teague's defeat dropped their record down to 4-10. As for Mexia, their win bumped their record up to 13-10.

Teague took a serious blow against Mexia when the teams last played back in February of 2024, falling 95-42. That contest was all but decided by halftime, at which point Teague was down 52-24.
