Softball Recap: St. Mary's Drops Highest Score of Season Against Mount St. Mary Academy

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask St. Mary). They blew past the Mount St. Mary Academy Thunder 22-4 on Friday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

Danielle Spiegel made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off six hits. Those nine strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one double. That triple marked the first that she has hit this season.

In other batting news, Ella Dovey was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. That's the most runs she has posted since back in May of 2024. Another player making a difference was Renee Henning, who went 3-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and two RBI.

St. Mary's kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 20 hits. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their hit total in three consecutive matches.

St. Mary's pushed their record up to 5-3 with the win, which was their third straight on the road. Those road victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.3 runs over those games. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they now have a losing record of 1-2.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. St. Mary's will face off against Mount Mercy Academy at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. The Magic will roll in looking for their fifth straight win, something the Lancers surely won't give up without a fight. As for Mount St. Mary Academy, they will challenge Sacred Heart Academy at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday.
