Softball Recap: Swanton Comes Up Short

Swanton extended their losing streak to three on Monday, dropping their season record down to 8-11 in the process. They took a 3-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Bryan Golden Bears. The Bulldogs were not able to make up for their defeat to the Golden Bears from their previous meeting back in April of 2024.

Beyla Remer spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned runs on nine hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Swanton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Cara Ludlow, who went 2-for-3 with one double.

As for Bryan, they have been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-3 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.8 runs on average over those games.

On Bryan's side, the result came thanks to Thea Staten's shutout, as she gave up just four hits and racked up 20 Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Josey Arnold, who went 2-for-4 with two RBI and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since April 1st.

Swanton didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next matchup, a 21-9 win against Wauseon on the 1st. As for Bryan, they also wasted no time getting back out on the field and have already played their next contest, a 10-0 victory against Evergreen on the 1st.
