Anthony led Crusaders to an opening-round victory over storied Virginia program in the Nike EYBL Scholastic tournament.

NORTH AUGUSTA, S.C. — Four-star Syracuse signee Kiyan Anthony of Long Island Lutheran (Brookville, N.Y.) had one of the most impressive games of his high school basketball career in the opening round of the Nike EYBL Scholastic tournament Wednesday, producing a game-high 25 points in a 71-61 victory over Oak Hill Academy (Mouth of Wilson, Va.) – the alma mater of his father Carmelo Anthony.

Anthony added three rebounds and three assists while shooting 9 of 15 from the field, 2 of 6 from 3-point range and 5 of 7 from the free throw line in the victory.

After missing five games of conference play due to injury, Anthony led the team in scoring in Nike EYBL Scholastic action during the regular season, averaging 14.4 points per contest while shooting 43.7 percent from the field.

Long Island Lutheran is undefeated with Anthony in the lineup this season, but struggled to a 3-6 start to the year with its star sidelined due to injury.

After Long Island Lutheran fell behind 33-23 just before the half, Anthony converted on the final field goal of the second quarter to give himself eight points at the intermission before heating up for 17 points in the second half to lead the Crusaders to the comeback victory.



Carmelo Anthony spent his senior season at Oak Hill Academy in 2001-02. He averaged 21.7 points, 8.1 rebounds and 4.0 assists during his senior campaign to guide the Warriors to a 32-1 record.

Regarded as the No. 34 prospect in the senior class according to 247Sports, Anthony signed with Syracuse over offers from Florida State, Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Ohio State, Providence, Tennessee and USC among others.

Long Island Lutheran (19-5), which has won 16 straight games and sits at No. 2 in the National Top 10, face Brewster Academy (Wolfeboro, N.H.) in the semifinals of the EYBL tournament at 4:30 p.m. ET today.
